Dr.ir. G.C. Avontuur, the author of Reliability Analysis in Mechanical Engineering Design, was born on May 30th 1968 in The Hague. In 1987 he finished primary education at the Interconfessioneel Westland College in Naaldwijk, the Netherlands, and started his study Mechanical Engineering at Delft University of Technology. He specialised in the field of Design Automation under the supervision of prof. Van der Werff and graduated in 1992.
After his graduation Avontuur started his career at the Construction Division of the Ministry of Public Works, Transport, and Water Management (Bouwdienst Rijkswaterstaat). From 1992 to 1996 he worked at the Mechanical Engineering Department, and from 1996 until 2002 he worked at the Design Automation Department (Bouwinformatica). Dr.ir. G.C. Avontuur now works at the Road and Hydraulic Engineering Institute of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works, and Water Management of The Netherlands.
The research for his Phd. project, Reliability Analysis in Mechanical Engineering Design, was supported by his former employer, Engineering and Construction Division of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works, and Water Management of The Netherlands and the Section Design of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands. On june 27th 2000 G.C. Avontuur graduated and finished the project sucessfully.
